Short version: BurnPlan runs entirely in your browser. We don't collect, store, or transmit your financial data anywhere. What you enter stays on your device.
BurnPlan is a free educational tool designed to help you model and explore retirement scenarios. It is not financial advice, and should not be relied upon as a substitute for guidance from a qualified financial advisor, tax professional, or investment planner.
All projections produced by BurnPlan are estimates based on the assumptions you provide. Future investment returns, inflation rates, tax laws, Social Security benefits, and market conditions are inherently uncertain and cannot be predicted with accuracy. Actual results will differ — possibly significantly — from any projection this tool produces.
Specifically, BurnPlan does not:
We strongly recommend consulting a licensed financial advisor, CPA, or certified financial planner (CFP) before making any retirement, investment, or tax decisions. Use BurnPlan as a starting point for conversations — not as a final plan.
Social Security estimates are approximations only. For your actual Social Security benefit projections, visit ssa.gov/myaccount to create a my Social Security account and view your personalized statement.
RMD calculations use simplified IRS Uniform Lifetime Table divisors as a reference. Consult IRS Publication 590-B or a tax advisor for your exact required minimum distributions.
We collect no personal financial data. BurnPlan performs all calculations locally in your web browser using JavaScript. None of the numbers you enter — account balances, income, ages, or any other financial information — is ever transmitted to our servers or any third party.
BurnPlan uses your browser's localStorage to save stress test results and scenario snapshots when you click "Save." This data is stored only on your device and is never sent anywhere. You can clear it at any time using the "Clear all" button in the Saved tab, or by clearing your browser's local storage in your browser settings.
When you use "Export settings," a JSON file is downloaded to your device. This file contains your plan configuration and is stored wherever you choose to save it on your computer. We have no access to this file.
We may use standard web analytics (such as Google Analytics) to understand how many people use BurnPlan and which features are most useful. This data is aggregated and anonymous — it does not include any financial information you enter into the tool.
BurnPlan displays advertisements served by Google AdSense. Google may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this or other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings. For more information, see Google's advertising policies.
Advertisers do not have access to any information you enter into BurnPlan.
